The Irish national sport on Darmstadt turf - on 11.06.2022 between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm the second tournament round of the 2022 season in Hurling and Camogie will take place on the grounds of the University Stadium of the TU Darmstadt. Hurling (men) or Camogie (women) is an over 3000 years old team ball sport from Ireland where two competing teams try to score more points than the other team. It is also known as the fastest grass sport in the world. The Darmstadt team "Darmstadt GAA e.V.", which has already participated in various international hurling and camogie tournaments throughout Europe for more than seven years, will welcome teams from Austria, Switzerland and France in addition to several German teams. Up to 100 players are expected to compete with their teams for the match day victory in Hurling and Camogie.
In Ireland you will hardly find anyone to whom Hurling or Camogie does not mean anything. In Germany and the other countries of continental Europe, on the other hand, one rarely encounters people familiar with the sport. Nevertheless, the game has been experiencing a steady growth in Germany and its neighboring countries in the past years, to which "Darmstadt GAA" in cooperation with the Unisport-Zentrum of the TU Darmstadt has been making a significant contribution for over seven years. After a two-year break due to Corona, "Darmstadt GAA" will be holding the third of its seven tournament matchdays in the university stadium of the TU Darmstadt.
What to expect from the match day
Starting at 10:00 a.m., the preliminary round matches in hurling and camogie will begin. The knockout phase will begin at noon before the finalists compete for the hurling and camogie trophies in the afternoon. Spectators can enjoy exciting games in an Irish atmosphere.
