We at Darmstadt GAA have set ourselves the goal of making the Irish sports of Hurling and Camogie as well as Gaelic Football better known and bringing them to southern Hesse. Virtually unknown outside Ireland, these sports fill huge stadiums on the Emerald Isle. In Ireland, there is hardly any way around hurling, camogie and Gaelic football. The games are firmly rooted in Irish culture and identity and are among the oldest and fastest field sports in the world.
Our main focus is to give players with little or no previous experience access to the Gaelic games. Everyone has the opportunity to get to know Irish sports from the very beginning, to train and finally to take part in games. Everyone is welcome, no matter if you are a complete beginner or a player with years of experience. As a Darmstadt home-grown team, we do well in the German and European championships and participate year after year in the large and small tournaments scattered across the continent in these sports.
We were founded in 2014 as part of the university sports centre in Darmstadt. One year later we became an official member of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the umbrella organisation for Gaelic sports in Ireland and worldwide. In 2017 and were registered as a registered association in Germany.
We organise several training sessions a week and are also a club with great community and team spirit. With us, you can visit almost every major city in Europe, but also just the beer garden in Darmstadt. Everything is possible, nothing is mandatory!
If you are interested in hurling, camogie or Gaelic football, want to support us or simply want to learn more about the world of GAA, you can contact us at any time.
